Grundfos in Burj Khalifa, a towering
achievement
The recent official opening of the world’ tallest structure, nicknamed “The Superscaper”, in Dubai made
headline news all around the world. Built at a cost of $1.5 billion, the final height of Burj Khalifa (former
known as Burj Dubai) that was only announced at the official opening, is a mind boggling 828m (2,716 ft).

Delivering on such an unprecedented project was a major logistical challenge to everyone involved in the
supply chain and Grundfos Pumps, GGD, were delighted to be part of the solution.
The new structure is home to a 160-room hotel (designed by Giorgio Armani), a range of businesses and
retail outlets as well as over 1,000 luxury apartments. All of these facilities require clean water to be
delivered to, as well as dirty water to be removed from, what is to all intents and purposes a vertical city.
Playing this role is a small army of 82 x Grundfos SENV submersible pumps, 27 x AP pumps submersible
drainage and effluent pumps suitable for a wide range of such applications. These pumps were supplied in
conjunction with 68 explosion proof control panels.

Ensuring the delivery of hot/cold water is an important priority and the Grundfos range were once again
recognized as offering the ideal solution and supplied 42 x CRN stainless steel multistage centrifugal pumps
and 3 x Hydro MPC booster sets that will ensure that water will be delivered to where it is required, when it
is required.
Grundfos pumps secure clean water
for thousands of people in Haiti
Grundfos SQFlex pumping systems provide clean water for so far 20,000 to 30,000 needy in
Haiti. During the first week after the disastrous earthquake the first systems were installed
and since then more systems have been added, In this way 9 pumps today provide water for
the inhabitants of the capital of Port-au-Prince and more pumps are arriving. Among others,
the Poul Due Jensen Foundation is donating another 20 pumping systems.

Since the earthquake the American aid organisation, "Water Mission International" has been working
intensively on installing purchased Grundfos SQFlex pumping systems in Haiti. The organisation has
co-operated with Grundfos for several years and was already installing SQFlex systems in Haiti. This is why
they already had four relief workers in Haiti when the earthquake happened. Together with a team of
volunteers who were quickly flown to Haiti, they initiated work on finding suitable places to install the
pumps. Seven days after the earthquake, the first two pumping systems had already been installed. In the
following days two pumps a day were installed and so far a total of 9 pumps have been installed. Another
three pumps have arrived in Haiti and they will be installed as soon as suitable places are found. Additional
20 pumping systems are in transit and ready to be flown to Haiti.

In addition to these pumping systems, the Poul Due Jensen Foundation recently decided to donate 20
SQFlex pumping systems to the relief work in Haiti. In this way Grundfos pumps in the near future will
provide clean water for several of the people affected by the Haiti earthquake. The SQFlex systems consist
of SQ pumps driven by solar energy. In addition a chlorine cleansing unit is added to the system and so the
pumping systems can deliver clean drinking water immediately to the thirsty people of Haiti, making a
difference here and now.
